To make a Watermelon Vodka Cooler, all you need is a shaker, fresh ingredients, and plenty of ice. A tall long drink or highball glass works especially well.
- Add ingredients to the shaker
Put watermelon puree, EXAKT vodka, lime juice and sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker. - Shake vigorously with ice.
Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously until the outside is noticeably cold and slightly fogged. - Strain over fresh ice
Fill a tall glass with fresh ice cubes and strain the cocktail over it. - Garnish and serve
Garnish with a slice of watermelon or some fresh mint and serve immediately.
EXAKT Tip: Use watermelon that is as ripe and well-chilled as possible. It adds more flavor and natural sweetness to the drink. For an especially smooth texture, you can briefly strain the freshly pureed fruit flesh through a fine sieve before measuring it out. Then use 6 cl of the watermelon puree for the cocktail.

The Watermelon Vodka Cooler is not a classic cocktail with a clearly documented inventor or a set original recipe. Rather, it belongs to a large family of refreshing drinks that are grouped under the term “cooler.”
The term “cooler” appears in historical cocktail sources as early as the 19th century. Originally, these were mostly light, long drinks made with ice, spirits, and soda or ginger ale. Over time, however, the term came to be used much more broadly—though the refreshing quality remained the defining characteristic.
Watermelon coolers also come in numerous variations today. Some are mixed with soda water, while others are blended with watermelon juice or watermelon puree. For example, a recipe combining watermelon, vodka, and lime was already published in the early 2000s.
Our version uses fresh watermelon purée and is blended directly with ice. This keeps the drink intensely fruity and gives it a pleasantly cool, smooth texture.
